The Problems

The Problems

Carrie Underwood’s Denim & Rhinestones tour needed to transform a studio album into a fully immersive arena experience. An experience that honored her country roots while embracing the elevated glamour and high-gloss confidence of this era. With a live drum solo from Carrie and a surprise collaboration with Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose, the tour also marked a bold turn toward a harder rock infusion.

The visual identity had to perform at massive scale across LED walls, IMAG screens, and touring stage architecture. And it had to do so night after night, in front of tens of thousands of fans.

The challenge was balancing dualities: country authenticity and pop spectacle, grit and polish, Tennessee and a bottle of Jack … denim and rhinestones. The visuals needed to feel powerful enough to fill Madison Square Garden, yet intimate enough to preserve Carrie’s storytelling. Each song demanded its own emotional language while remaining cohesive within the larger arc of the show.

Under tight production timelines and the technical realities of a 43-city arena tour, the core problem was clear: how do you create concert visuals that elevate a global artist’s evolving brand, amplify live performance energy, soft launch a subtle personal rebrand, and scale seamlessly across venues while not overpowering the artist herself?

The Solutions

The Solutions

We approached Denim & Rhinestones as a world, not a backdrop.

Our strategy was to build a visual language that could stretch across genres as fluidly as Carrie herself, moving from rhinestone glamour to hard rock edge without feeling disjointed. We developed a flexible content system that allowed each song to live in its own distinct visual atmosphere while remaining anchored to a cohesive aesthetic spine.

For high-energy tracks and rock-infused moments, we leaned into bold lighting contrasts, dynamic camera-responsive motion, textured metallic surfaces, and amplified pacing that expanded the physical scale of the stage. For more intimate storytelling moments, we pulled back. We utilized negative space, subtle organic texture, and emotionally driven visuals that supported the performance rather than competing with it.

The touring design incorporated a central hero screen, two flanking LED panels, and a projection-mapped scenic backdrop, creating a layered visual environment adaptable to arena-scale venues. We built with scale, playback reliability, and nightly consistency at the forefront ensuring the show could evolve emotionally while remaining technically seamless across 43 cities.

The result was a visual environment that amplified Carrie’s evolution confidently stepping into a harder, arena-rock energy without losing what makes Carrie a country music icon. The design didn’t overpower the artist. It expanded her presence, giving the performance cinematic scale while keeping her at the center of every frame.
